I’ve seen Hondas & Toyotas. I’d like to see if the Galant can meet my requirement as a value-for-money sedan here in Texas. What can you tell me about it?

Todd

Houston, TX

Hey there, Todd! If you’re in the market for a value-for-money sedan, then the 2009 Galant could be a good choice for you. I will suggest that you test drive one once you visit your Mitsubishi dealer there in Texas. Although it may not look much compared to Acuras and Lexus models, the Galant is a very practical car to drive. After all, Mitsubishi’s rally-bred cars are always fun to drive and usually packed with some “oomph” once you press on the accelerator.

If you are someone who regularly drives people around, rest easy because the Galant can seat 5 people comfortably. Either you pack in the family or your friends for a ride around town, the Galant can ably do that. You can ably do that with a choice from 4 trims. The ES and Sport Edition (SE) both come with a 2.4 Liter MIVEC engine with 160 hp performance. The V6 trims are the Sport V6, with 230 hp and Ralliart with about 258 horsepower. Mitsubishi also took care of passenger comfort by providing automatic climate controlled air-conditioning and cruise control as standards. For safety, all trims have Anti-lock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution, and front airbags, side-impact air bags and even side curtain airbags. That’s like being engulfed by airbags once you get into an accident.

A friend of mine told me that if I wanted a cool looking car, I should try going for a Lancer. I am about ready to give up on my dad’s 10-year old hand-me-down Ford. It’s time for the big league move here in good old Houston, Texas. Should I go with my friend’s advice?

Eric

Houston, TX

Hey, Eric, I think you’re friend is right. It is time to ditch the hand-me-down and look good in Houston, Texas. And it is time to get rid of some maintenance headaches. I bet you got a few things planned already for you and your Lancer.

But, hey, let me just say what is in store for my man, Eric. If you saw a lot of car movies that featured a lot of Asian-looking people, chances are, you know how much mod-ding you can do with the Mitsubishi Lancer. But first, my advice is, go with the base model for a 2009 Lancer and mod as you go. Enjoy the stock model first before tinkering with it. That way, you get to maximize the full-potential of the engine and the look of the car. By the way, if you’re really up to it. I suggest you go for a GTS or the Ralliart Lancer. Choices are between a 168 hp and 237 horsepower engines, the MIVECS engines have always been reliable. You can also check out the available options for the two models when you go to your Mitsubishi Houston dealer. Either way, with either the GTS or Ralliart, you get power and coolness in your future car. Whoo! I love the new Lancer.

I think I’m ready to drive a new roadster in Houston, Texas again. Besides, my MX-5 could sure use some company in the garage. Would a 2009 Eclipse be a good big “baby bro” to my Mazda MX-5?

Vic

Houston, TX

Hello, Vic. I’d like to add that it’s a good thing you are keeping that MX-5 around. It is still one of the better vehicles that Mazda ever produced. Now, on to better things, let’s talk Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi has a long tradition of performance and design excellence. I think choosing the 2009 Eclipse would indeed be a great choice for your car’s “big bro” position.

The Eclipse has 2 trims, the GS and GT, both with MPI (multi-point injection) engines. Main difference between the two is their power plants. The GS trim keeps under its hood, a 16-valve Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) 2.4 Liter MIVECS engine while the GT has a 24-valve SOHC 3.8 Liter MIVECS engine. In terms of power, the GS cranks up about 162 hp at 6,000 revolutions per minute while the GT does 262 horsepower under 6,000 RPM. Redlines for both are at 6,500. That takes care of the muscle part, let’s talk looks. Personally, since you’re talking “roadster,” the logical choice for you should be the 2009 Eclipse Spyder GT. I loooove the 18 inch wheels on the on an Eclipse. There are also options for putting in a premium stereo system. Not only does the car look good, you’ll look awesome in it, too. Imagine you and the Eclipse Spyder in Houston, Texas. Great picture, isn’t it?

Reader’s Question:

I’ve heard that the Mitsubishi Outlander was introduced in 2001 here in Houston, Texas. What difference or upgrades that the 2007 model has compared to the earlier version?

Nathan
Houston, TX

As compared to the older version of Mitsubishi Outlander, the 2007 model is much larger. All of its 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander models (ES, LS and XLS) are equipped with a 3.0 liter V6 engine, which can produce 220 horsepower and 6,250 revs per minute. It has a 6 speed automatic transmission which operates smoothly as that of the Ford window motor. One of its remarkable features would be the Sportronic Technology which allows manual gear changes.

The 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander is also equipped with the Reinforced Safety Evolution chassis which gives it the attribute of a rally car. The chassis has a rigid unibody structure which allows the Mcpherson struts to run smoothly for independent multi link suspension of the rear. What gives it the rally car like performance is the steering and suspension system with the all wheel drive option. And because of these remarkable features, driving the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander in the rough terrains of Houston is such a breeze. Plus, it also allows tight cornering on city streets.

Reader’s Question:

I am a mobile worker here in Houston, Texas and looking forward to have a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider. How would you compare it against its so called cousin Dodge Dakota?

Alex
Houston, TX

It is a common sight here in Houston, Texas to see a Dodge Dakota being driven along the freeways. But if you stop a while and scrutinize the vehicle, the triad logo in the center of the grille, you will find out that it is not a Dodge Dakota but a Mitsubishi Raider. That’s a common scenario most people look up at the Mitsubishi Raider. There’s a long history on why this came to be. Bottom line is, there are still significant differences between the models that gives the Raider a uniqueness all of its own.

So, what keeps the Raider unique from its so called “cousin”? One exceptional feat is the price. You can find it cheaper to buy the Raider from around $19,000. The truck comes with either a 210 hp V6 or a beefy 230 hp V8. The V8 is very much appealing to those who tow as its pulling capacity is a respectable 6500 lbs.

The Raider is available as either a 4×4 or a 4×2 and with four door or even 2 door cab configurations. It can seat to as many as 6 passengers. Looking inside, the Raider comes with trim features more of that a sedan than with a pick up. Sirius satellite radios boosted with Alpine speakers, heated leather surfaces for the front and bucket seats compliments driving pleasure especially for long journeys.

Reader’s Question:

My boyfriend is really a car aficionado and I kept on reminding him to take it easy on spending his earnings for the latest car model. He currently own 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer here in Houston, Texas. Would you recommend upgrades as less expensive than buying the latest model every now and then?

Elisse
Houston, TX

Your boyfriend seems to earn much because he can afford to catch up with the latest models as you’ve mentioned. Upgrading a car would definitely save you a fortune as compared to buying the latest models. I consider owning a car as very valuable investment. You would not want your money go down the drain in maintaining an up to date car driving style.

There are thousands of ways to enjoy and personalize your Mitsubishi car. Try to start the upgrades on your interiors. You can make the exterior more appealing especially if you plan to sell it in the future. Check out the best color for the body that matches your personality as well. Pay attention to every details of the exterior especially the parts that wear out easily like the door handles, headlights and even the hub caps. Proper maintenance of the car engine and its exhaust parts will save you hundreds of dollars.

Having your car stay fit all throughout the time that you will be using it is pretty challenging, especially driving in the busy suburbs of Houston, Texas. But I suggest that you try to consider parts replacement instead of car replacement. With proper care, you and your car will go a long way.

Q: Is there any weird practice that I should be aware of before I go to the Houston Mitsubishi dealership to buy my car?

A: There are a lot, but it depends on who you asked. The stupidest thing I have every come across at a Houston Texas Mitsubishi is when the car salesperson tries to get all of your personal information before you even test drive a car. They ask you for your social security number and they want to photocopy your driver’s license, and most people give in because they don’t realize that this is wrong.

They’re doing this because they want to run a credit check on you without even telling you. The Houston Texas Mitsubishi dealer might say that it’s necessary before a test drive, but that’s not true at all. I’ve rented a lot of cars, and they never needed a copy of my driver’s license. All they needed to do was see it and that was it.

Before you take your test drive, you don’t need a credit check because you aren’t sure if you want the car yet. It’s just a weird tactic that the Houston Texas Mitsubishi uses to pull you in ad get you to purchase a car. Remember that the more someone looks into your credit, the worse the score will be, so you only want someone to pull up your credit report when it’s absolutely necessary.

It’s not just Houston Texas Mitsubishi that does this, it’s all car dealerships, so you should look out for it anywhere you go.
