Reader’s Question:

I’ve seen Hondas & Toyotas. I’d like to see if the Galant can meet my requirement as a value-for-money sedan here in Texas. What can you tell me about it?

Houston, TX

Hey there, Todd! If you’re in the market for a value-for-money sedan, then the 2009 Galant could be a good choice for you. I will suggest that you test drive one once you visit your Mitsubishi dealer there in Texas. Although it may not look much compared to Acuras and Lexus models, the Galant is a very practical car to drive. After all, Mitsubishi’s rally-bred cars are always fun to drive and usually packed with some “oomph” once you press on the accelerator.

If you are someone who regularly drives people around, rest easy because the Galant can seat 5 people comfortably. Either you pack in the family or your friends for a ride around town, the Galant can ably do that. You can ably do that with a choice from 4 trims. The ES and Sport Edition (SE) both come with a 2.4 Liter MIVEC engine with 160 hp performance. The V6 trims are the Sport V6, with 230 hp and Ralliart with about 258 horsepower. Mitsubishi also took care of passenger comfort by providing automatic climate controlled air-conditioning and cruise control as standards. For safety, all trims have Anti-lock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution, and front airbags, side-impact air bags and even side curtain airbags. That’s like being engulfed by airbags once you get into an accident.

Q: Is there any weird practice that I should be aware of before I go to the Houston Mitsubishi dealership to buy my car?

A: There are a lot, but it depends on who you asked. The stupidest thing I have every come across at a Houston Texas Mitsubishi is when the car salesperson tries to get all of your personal information before you even test drive a car. They ask you for your social security number and they want to photocopy your driver’s license, and most people give in because they don’t realize that this is wrong.

They’re doing this because they want to run a credit check on you without even telling you. The Houston Texas Mitsubishi dealer might say that it’s necessary before a test drive, but that’s not true at all. I’ve rented a lot of cars, and they never needed a copy of my driver’s license. All they needed to do was see it and that was it.

Before you take your test drive, you don’t need a credit check because you aren’t sure if you want the car yet. It’s just a weird tactic that the Houston Texas Mitsubishi uses to pull you in ad get you to purchase a car. Remember that the more someone looks into your credit, the worse the score will be, so you only want someone to pull up your credit report when it’s absolutely necessary.

It’s not just Houston Texas Mitsubishi that does this, it’s all car dealerships, so you should look out for it anywhere you go.

Q: Can I get money for a trade in from a Mitsubishi dealer in Houston?

A: Every Mitsubishi dealer in Houston that I’ve bought a car from has allowed you to trade in a car as a down payment or in addition to a down payment. One even took a car that wasn’t operating at all and would have been expensive to fix for three thousand dollars! If we had tried to sell that on Craigslist or something it would have gone for five hundred bucks, so we made a good deal.

I would suggest trading in a car if you have it to your Mitsubishi dealer in Houston because if you have a big enough down payment then you will make lower monthly payments and it won’t take you as long to pay off your loan. Trading in a car AND making a cash down payment is even better.

I think the problem that a lot of people come up against when trading in their car to their Mitsubishi dealer in Houston is that they don’t really know how much their car is worth. Sometimes this means that they’ll trade it in for way less than they should, or they’ll avoid trading it in at all because they think that no one is offering them a good price. I think the key to overcoming this is realizing that you have to separate what you deserve from what you want.

Before you go and trade in your used car to your Mitsubishi dealer and Houston, find out what it’s really worth. If you check Kelley’s Blue Book, they not only give you the actual value but the trade in value (which is less) as well. This won’t mean that it must absolutely be that number, since it’s up to the interpretation of the dealer, but it’s a good place to start.

Q: Which Houston Mitsubishi dealer has the best specials on cars and trucks?

A: Well, I’ve found some pretty good specials at each Houston Mitsubishi dealer over time, but I guess it depends on what exactly you’re looking for. I mean, do you want a new car, or a used car, or something else? Because one Houston Mitsubishi dealer might be better in one category, and another in another. It all depends.

For one, the Houston Mitsubishi dealer Gillman only has three specials on new cars going on right now. They’re pretty good specials, though. One is for a Gallant ES and you save $5500 off of the MSRP. Another is or the Endeavor LS, and that’s even better with a savings of $7600. The last one is the Raider LS Ex-Cab, even better still, $8000 savings. Pretty good, but not many.

Then you have Champion Houston Mitsubishi dealer. The problem with their specials is the lack of variety. At least for the Gillman Houston Mitsubishi dealer specials they had an SUV, a truck, and a car. For Champion, all they have are four trucks. But the savings on the trucks from Champion Houston Mitsubishi dealer are more than for the others. However, none of their specials for new cars are actually Mitsubishis. Only one special is, but it’s for a 2004 Montero Sport.

Last of all, you have McGinnis Houston Mitsubishi dealer. I really like their specials, and they also have a nice variety. They have two SUVs, two cars, and a truck. I guess trucks aren’t as popular as they used to be. The savings they have aren’t as great as the others, though. The Outlander, for one, a great car, is only $3000 off the MSRP. Then there’s the Endeavor LS (a popular special) which is $6500 off, so you’d probably do better getting it at Houston Mitsubishi dealer Gillman. The Raider is $7000 off…again, better with Gillman. The Spyder is only $3000 off, but I’d take just three bucks off because I really like that car.

Anyway, it just depends on what you’re looking for. I probably wouldn’t go with Gillman Houston Mitsubishi dealer if I wanted specials because McGinnis outdoes them everytime time.
